'10 Things I like in NYC today' by Founder/Creative Director Belynda Macpherson
1. Mosaics in the Subway - Alice in Wonderland greeted me on a frosty morning today as I exited 50th Street station
2. What were they thinking? - I couldnt help but wonder when I looked at this billboard … this eyeball looks a tad worried. Help me?
3. DVF Head-quarters - Diane Von Furstenburg's glamerous headquarters in the middle of the Meat-Packing district, with fashionistas pouring in and out the doors looking … well … very DVF. The Icon is in there somewhere, I bet that's her office at the top.
4. Cranky Fashionistas - NY Fashion Week officially starts today and the pressure is certainly on. If the leopard prints don't get to you, the boss will. Do you think she'll make it to the end?
5. Super-Bowl Effect - Madonna is everywhere right now, and that is fine by me.
6. Talk to the hand - well ok then. Not worth arguing with these guys, they really do wield alot of power in this town.
7. Fashion in the chaos - everyone is arriving for fashion week and show venues are putting last minute touches to event spaces.
8. Solitude in the City - the 'High Line', which is a disused railway bridge transformed into a walking garden, runs atop of the city and gives you a chance to look up and see the sunset. It's a quiet peace of heaven in overlooking the river.
9. Memories - I used to have a pair of these roller-skates when I was about 6 years old … my Dad bough them for me from Japan. They were Blue. They were my first love. Orange is good too.
10. Pie Face lands Letterman - I had to mention this because my husband is involved in the launch of Australian brand Pie Face in New York. I am here for Fashion Week, he is here to peddle meat pies … and David Letterman thought he'd help out and talk about them live on air. The store is next door to his studios on Broadway, and he just told the entire world about how much he loves them. Best PR ever … I think so. Go team.
